What activities to do you participate in? Climbing, Biking, Hiking, Running, Photography…I’m pretty bad at basket weaving, but this one time in Venezuela’s Gran Sabana, a Pemon elder taught us how to make a backpack out of grass!

Latest expedition(s)/project(s)? I just got back from a successful climbing expedition in the isolated Vampire Peaks of Canada’s Northwest Territories. In a few weeks I’m headed to China for five weeks to explore the alpine climbing potential in the remote borderlands of the Sichuan and Qinghai Kham.
What inspires you? What/who made you want to do the crazy things you do? The journey between conceptualization and accomplishment.
Favorite Mountainsmith product? LARIAT 65 – I love the minimalist design that has just enough straps to lash on the extras without any hassle; oh, the detachable summit pack is nice too!
If you had a superpower, what would it be? Instant learning: the ability to instantly master any skill, trade, craft, language, art, etc.

What non-survival-essential item do you bring while out exploring? Colored pencils and a pencil sharpener.
